Tigers Split with The College of Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio - In a competition that has seesawed back and forth over the past several years, the Wittenberg men defeated the College of Wooster in the pool for the second year in a row (127-105). The women's team fell to the Scots, however, but not without a tough fight (84.5-152.5).

The men did a little more than make a statement to the College of Wooster. In nine of 11 events, the Tigers took two of the top three scoring positions.

Starting off the meet, the men swept Wooster in the 400-yard Medley relay. The relay team of Aaron Edsall, Alex Berger, Joshua Schnacke and Bob Rafferty took first place, while the team of Eric Jones, Jeremy Lazarus, Steve Rader and Kyle Dunaway rolled in at a close second place.

Freshman Brandon Morris and senior Jason Hill went one-two in the 1000 freestyle. In the next event, the 200 freestyle, Edsall and Rafferty took the top two spots. Lazarus and Berger then grabbed first and second place in the 200 breaststroke.

Rader brought the Tigers a pair of first place finishes in the 200 IM and the 200 butterfly. Edsall recorded a first place finish in the 200 backstroke, while Jones came in third in the same event. Jones also finishes third in the 200 IM.

Other highlights of the competition were Bob Rafferty and Josh Schancke's second and third place finishes in the 100 freestyle, along with Hill's third place finish in the 200 butterfly and freshman Jon Bradley's third place finish in the 500 freestyle.

Also scoring points for the Tigers were Matt Werbach, Brian Hillman, Bradley and Dunaway, a foursome that teamed up to capture second place points in the 400 freestyle relay.

The Lady Tigers had their share of first, second and third place finishes, but it was not enough to match the efforts of the Scots. With only three marks on the big-board for first place, the women were unable to match Wooster's pace in the competition.

Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was Rachel Juergens, who finished first in the 1000 and 500 freestyle events, posting season-best times in each. She also finished in the No. 2 spot in the 200 freestyle.

Allison Dingus tossed in second place points in the 100 freestyle and third place points in the 200 IM. Melanie Edsall posted a second place in the 200 backstroke.

Elizabeth Bradley tallied up third place points in the 500 freestyle, while Courtney Galliger did the same in the 50 freestyle. Melissa Beck cruised to a pair of third place finishes in both the 200 freestyle and butterfly events.

Galliger, Dingus, Nicole Kinzler and Beck gave Wittenberg its first place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.
