Tigers Fall in Conference Match-Up

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg was back in action on Edwards-Maurer Field for a conference match-up against the Ladies of Kenyon College. The Tigers looked for another conference win, after defeating Hiram on Senior Day with a 5-1 score. Prior to tonight, the Red & White have faced off with the Ladies 39 times in program history, dominating at home with a record of 11-5-2 on Edwards-Maurer Field. However, tonight Wittenberg faced a tough Kenyon team who were able to get on the board in the first half, giving the Tigers their first conference loss of the season.

Wittenberg battled it out in the first half with the Ladies in a close match-up. Wittenberg was able to get one shot off on goal and were able to draw three corner kicks but were unable to connect with the back of the net in the first half while Kenyon put up a single goal. Wittenberg headed into the half down with a score of 1-0.

The second half led to more offensive opportunities for the Tigers who were able to get nine shots off but Kenyon was able to hold their ground and took the game 1-0. Wittenberg limited Kenyon offense to four shots during the game and didn't give the Ladies any corner kick opportunities. Wittenberg currently stands at number four in the conference with a 1-1 NCAC record.

NCAC Stats Leaders- Hannah Heald is tied for sixth in the conference for goals on the season with four. Just behind Heald is Amy Bidwill in ninth with three goals. Heald and Bidwill are also in the top ten for assists with Heald tied at second (three assists) and Bidwill tied at seventh (two assists). Hannah Heald lands at number six in the NCAC for points this season with a total of 11, while Amy Bidwill is tenth with eight points. On the defensive side, Emma Schewe sits at number five for save percentage and saves this season at .769 and 30 saves. (All NCAC statistics are based prior to tonight's match-up against Kenyon)

The women will be back in action on October 9th on the road against Oberlin at 3PM.
