Springfield, OH -- The Wittenberg Women's Soccer Team claimed an early victory on Saturday against the Wolverines of Grove City College. The Tigers came out hot dominating the middle of the field. In the eighth minute freshman Hannah Heald strikes first assisted by junior Amy Bidwill, setting the pace for the remainder of the half. Senior Maria Miller led the defense, pushing up their line to keep the game on the Wolverine's half of the field, setting up chances for the Tiger offense.

The Tigers were winning every ball in the air and clearing the ball from deep, only allowing Grove City eight total shots. Senior keeper Emma Shewe only allowed one of the five shots on goal in the 67th minute. Wittenberg challenged the Wolverine goalkeeper, tallying eleven shots throughout the match. Wittenberg stayed hungry in the first half, scoring their second goal in the 25th minute by senior Alix Steele and Miller sending the ball in from mid field for the assist.

Wittenberg maintained control of the game in the second half, only allowing one ball getting passed them, putting the score at 2-1 in the 60th minute. This would be the final goal of the game, nothing short of chances taken by the Tigers, unable to come up with another goal.

The Tigers are staying at home, hosting the Tartans of Carnegie Mellon Sunday, September 19 at 4:00 p.m.
