Women's Soccer Supports Good Cause With Road Opener At Capital

Columbus, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's soccer team opened up 2018 action with a trip just up the road to Capital University. The Crusaders would take the early 1-0 lead after the first half expired. The home team would come back to add three more goals through the second half of action. Wittenberg would not back down as the clock wound down, recording their first goal on a Megan Davis strike in the 87th minute.

            There was much more going on than just a game between two teams, as both Wittenberg and Capital are used the opening day of their season to help another Capital Women's Soccer alum, and former teammate of Coach Robinson, Natasha Churches (Ballard). The admissions charge for those attending the game is any donation you're willing to give; no donation is too small or too big. The funds collected at the game for admission will be donated directly to Natasha to help cover the expenses she has taken on as she continues to support her mother and step sister.

 

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • Wittenberg would tally four shot attempts on the evening, placing one on target.
  • The two teams played a physical contest with over 15 fouls in the match.
  • The Tigers had their chances on set pieces, taking five corner kicks throughout the game.

FROM THE BENCH

  • "Despite the scoreline, we felt like we played very well. We had some momentum going our way and settled into the game and the PK shifted the game away again. I'm really proud of the effort from our team tonight and the way they battled. So many things to build on going into Sunday," said head coach Katie Robinson.

 

UP NEXT

  • Wittenberg will make their home debut on Sunday, September 2 when they take on Wisconsin-Whitewater at 12:00 PM from Edwards-Maurer Field.
