Wittenberg Women's Soccer Tournament Run Ends Against WashU

St. Louis, Mo. – The Wittenberg women's soccer team came out fighting against the defending NCAA DIII National Champions Washington University of St. Louis Bears. The fouls were just as plenty as the shots in the first half, with the Bears leading the tally 10-2 through the forty-five minutes of action. Wittenberg had their chances on goal, when Jordyn Wright played a ball across the field to find Leah Soutar on the far post run, forcing the WashU keeper to make an acrobatic save.

It would be a defensive stalemate through the second half, as the two teams did not give an inch in the intensity category. While the chipping and shoving continued through the half, the Bears made the best of a bad bounce inside the Wittenberg defensive box. WashU scored the go-ahead goal in the 87th minute of action, as they kept the Tigers from taking a shot through the second half.

Coming off the fifth NCAC Tournament Championship in program history. Wittenberg closes out the season with a 9-7-3 mark and 5-3 in NCAC action, the Tigers are now 5-7 in NCAA postseason play. This senior class holds an overall record of 40-26-8 and 19-10-1 in the NCAC. During their career, they helped the Tigers achieve a 2016 NCAC Regular Season Championship while receiving an NCAA Tournament bid that same year. Wittenberg ended their season winning eight of their final 11 games.
