Wittenberg Women's Soccer Claims NCAC Title

Gambier, Ohio – The Wittenberg University women's soccer team fought their way back into the North Coast Atlantic Conference Tournament Championship game on Saturday afternoon at Kenyon College. The Tigers took down the Ladies 1-0, capturing their first NCAC Tournament title since 2009 and fourth in school history. Wittenberg returns to the final game of the NCAC Tournament after making appearances in the Championship round in 2013 and 2016.

Kaitlyn Krieg would tally the lone goal for the Tigers in the 28th minute, though Wittenberg would not be short on scoring chances throughout the day. The Tigers came out firing in the first half, leading the shot count 9-0 after the first half of action. Kenyon would manage just eight shots through the second half, placing three on frame. Kelly Corbin came in for Hannah Wilson with a little over twenty minutes remaining in the game, while Wilson had two saves to her credit. Corbin recorded one save against one Kenyon shot on goal.

For her efforts to get the Tigers on the board and scoring the only goal of the day, Krieg was named Tournament MVP. Emily Thomas, Kenzie Mason, Leah Soutar and Jordyn Wright were each named to the All-Tournament Team.

Wittenberg improves to 5-1 all-time in NCAC Championship games, while picking up their first Championship road decision. The Tigers have won all three of their previous championship games by a one-goal margin, as they improve their NCAC postseason record to 12-2 all-time. Wittenberg closed out the season on a four-game win streak, outscoring their opponent 10-2 through the backstretch. Finishing with an overall record of 8-6-3 and 5-3 in the NCAC, the Tigers will await the NCAA selection show Monday, Nov. 6 at 1:00 PM to see where their automatic bid takes them.
