Tigers Take Down Wilmington 1-0 In Home Opener

Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's soccer team picked up their first win of the 2017 season, taking down the Quakers of Wilmington College 1-0 from Edwards-Maurer Field. The win was the first in the head coaching career of Katie Robinson, who took the reins at Wittenberg in February. The Tigers only needed one goal to seal the victory, as freshman Kaitlyn Krieg would find the back of the net in the 25th  minute. Krieg carried the ball up the slick turf, sending a high lofting ball on goal that would end just out reach of the Wilmington keeper, landing in the back of the net for the Tigers. Wittenberg would hold strong through the final 45 minutes, holding the Quakers to just three shots in the second half.

GAME NOTES

  • Wittenberg had three shots in the game with Krieg putting the only ball on target.
  • Hannah Wilson made six saves in net for the Tigers, recording her second consecutive shutout of the season.

FROM THE BENCH

  • "As a program, we are pleased with getting the win be we aren't satisfied with our performance. Good teams find ways to win even when it's tough to do so and last night we were able to do that," Head Coach Katie Robinson said.
