Women's Soccer Starts Season With 0-0 Tie At #18 Centre

Danville, Ky. - Inclement weather pushed back the start of the 2017 season for the Wittenberg women's soccer team. The Tigers opened their season on Saturday at #18 Centre College, holding on for a 0-0 tie after 120 minutes of action. It took two overtime periods for the teams to call it a day, as the sky remained cloud covered with spotty showers throughout the duration. Neither side was short of scoring opportunities, as the Tigers took nine shots, including five on target.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Leah Soutar managed to get two shots off for the Tigers, with both of them on net in the overtime stalemate.
  • Hannah Wilson stood tall for all 120 minutes, handling six of the Centre shots that came on target.
  • Wittenberg jumped out to a quick start, producing five shots in the first half, before being held to just one shot in extra time.

FROM THE BENCH

"Every player had a role in tonight's game and the sense of togetherness was contagious on the sideline. Centre is a very good team and it's exciting to see our team step up and execute in big moments against a top team in Division III. It's a great first step in this journey but we are hungry for more and excited for what's to come," said Head Coach Katie Robinson
