Women's Soccer to Host NCAA Regional; Square Off Against Nazareth Saturday

NCAA RELEASE

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Despite dropping the NCAC Championship match over the weekend, the Tigers body of work throughout the 2016 season caught the attention of the NCAA as the team is set to host the opening round of the tournament on November 11 and 12.

Wittenberg has not made the NCAA tournament since 2012, and has not hosted a Regional since 2007. The 2016 Tigers finished the season 13-4-2, with a 7-1 NCAC mark as the Tigers entered the post-season NCAC Tournament as the #1 seed after winning the regular season crown.

The Tigers were ranked as high as #21 in the NCAA Poll, as the Tigers boast wins against Wisconsin-Whitewater, and a double-overtime tie against Centre College. From October 1 to November 5, the Tigers rode a 10-game winning streak that included six shut-outs.

Two-sport standout and NCAC All-Tournament Team member Michelle Brunswick leads the Tigers with five goals, while Leah Soutar leads Wittenberg with nine total assists. Senior keeper Hannah Wilson has logged four shutouts in net for the Tigers, totaling 62 saves in 2016.

Wittenberg squares off against Nazareth College (14-3-2) on Saturday, as a time is to be determined Tuesday.  Carnegie Mellon (11-5-1) and Penn State Berks (17-3-1) will also play Saturday with the winners playing Sunday to advance to the round of 16.
