Tigers Fall to Denison in NCAC Championship 1-0

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg women's soccer played host to the NCAC championship game on Saturday, as the #1 seeded Tigers played the Big Red of Denison. Last week, Wittenberg traveled to Granville and dethroned Denison out of first place in the league, winning the regular season NCAC title. The tables were turned on the Tigers on Saturday, as a hard-fought 90 minutes for both teams ended in heartbreak for the Tigers as Denison netted a goal in the 89th minute to win 1-0.

MATCH NOTES

  • Wittenberg had their opportunities, but the Big Red controlled the ball for most of the night, as the Big Red scored late to win the conference championship.  

KEY STATS

  • As a team, Wittenberg and the Big Red were evenly matched, as both teams produced 10 shots in the match.
  • Wittenberg produced four shots on goal as Michelle Brunswick and Leah Soutar each had one.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

  • Upon the conclusion of the tournament, Brunswick, Soutar, and Hannah Wilson earned NCAA All-Tournament Team Honors.

  • "We battled incredibly hard for so long and to lose in the way we did hurts. We feel like we deserved more, but we have to brush this off and move on," said Coach Fannon.
