Women's Soccer Guts Out 1-0 Win Over Terriers on Senior Night

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg women's soccer has been on a roll as of late, as the Tigers and head coach Matt Fannon wanted nothing more than to send off the seniors in style on Saturday night in Springfield. The senior night festivities prefaced the match between the Hiram Terriers and Tigers, and poetically enough, it was a Tiger senior, Michelle Brunswick, that sealed the deal for the Tigers. Wittenberg downed the pesky Terriers 1-0 on Saturday after Brunswick headed in a throw-in from Leah Soutar in the 65th minute of action. Wittenberg has now won seven straight contests, as the team from Springfield now sits 10-3-2 overall, with a 5-1 mark in conference. The Tigers sit one point behind Denison in the NCAC standings, with the Tigers traveling to Denison on October 26 with first place in the league on the line.

MATCH NOTES

  • Brunswick's game winner was her third of 2016, while Soutar's assist on the play was her fifth of 2016.
  • The Tigers lopsidedly controlled almost all of the shots in Saturday's match, as the home team produced 22 shots while the visiting Hiram Terriers only managed to get four shots off.
  • Kelly Corbin recorded the shutout in net for the Tigers, as the freshman keeper and the Tigers have now recorded three consecutive shutouts in NCAC play.

FROM THE COACH

  • "We were not at our best tonight but we found a way to win. That alone is a great quality to have at this stage in the season," said Coach Fannon.
