Women's Soccer Makes it Six-Straight With Decisive Win Over DePauw

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg squared off against DePauw in a NCAC battle on Tuesday night at Edwards-Maurer Field. Both teams came into action points behind NCAC leader Denison in the standings, and with four conference wins each. The Tigers of Wittenberg blanked DePauw 2-0 to move to 4-1 overall in NCAC play, now one point behind Denison atop the standings. The Tigers have won their last six matches, and have gone 7-2-1 in the past 10. Tuesday night for the Tigers was more of the same, as Wittenberg passed crisply on their way to back-to-back shutouts.

MATCH BREAKDOWN

  • In the 15th minute, Wittenberg took control of the match as Leah Soutar placed a beautiful throw in to open space where Kenzie Mason could get control, sending a screaming shot into the corner of the net, past a diving DePauw goalie.
  • In the 74th minute of action, Wittenberg put the game out of reach after Jordyn Wright pulled off one of the trickiest passes Edwards-Maurer Field has seen, right to Morgan Jones who scored at point-blank range for the red and white.

KEY STATS

  • Jones' goal was her fourth of the season, as the senior has scored in each of her last two contests after returning from a concussion.
  • Mason's goal was the freshman's second of the year, as the Granger, Indiana native has totaled three points in the last two NCAC matches for the Tigers.
  • Hannah Wilson produced her second consecutive shutout in net for Wittenberg, as the junior made five saves in Tuesday night's win.
