Tigers Sink Gators 2-1 in NCAC Showdown

MEADVILLE, Pennsylvania- Wittenberg women's soccer looked to rebound in NCAC play on the road Saturday afternoon. The Tigers made the trek to Pennsylvania to take on the Gators of Allegheny College ahead of some serious weather. The Tigers avoided the storms, downing Allegheny on their Homecoming, 2-1. Wittenberg managed to produce an absolute flurry of shots in the match, while Leah Soutar and Megan Davis were able to find the back of the net. Wittenberg improves to 5-3-2 in 2016, with a 1-1 mark in NCAC play. The Gators fall to 3-5-1 and 0-1 in NCAC play.

MATCH NOTES

  • Davis found the back of the net for the Tigers in the 53rd minute, the sophomore's second goal of 2016. 
  • Wittenberg has scored in bunches all season, and the Tigers did just that on Saturday as not even five minutes later, Soutar managed to score on a ball from Morgan Jones.
  • Soutar's goal was her second of the 2016 campaign, as Jones' assist was her first of the year.

KEY STATS

  • The Tigers outshot the Gators 17-16 and 11-9 in shots-on-goal.
  • Davis led the Tigers with four shots on goal, as the team forced Allegheny's goalie into nine saves.
  • Hannah Wilson moved to 5-3-2 on the year, as the goalkeeper faced nine shots on goal, making eight saves in her 90 minutes of work.

  • "We really commanded the second half of today's match and we were able to play the way we wanted to… It was a solid performance overall," said Coach Fannon.
