Wittenberg Women's Soccer Ranked #25 in Latest NCAA Poll

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg women's soccer has hit the ground running in 2016, as the Tigers have earned a ranking of #25 in the latest NCAA poll. This is the first time that the Tigers have reached such heights in head coach Matt Fannon's tenure with the Tigers. 

"We know we have the qualities to be a nationally ranked team and have been playing at this level for the majority of the season. I am continually impressed with the work ethic and dedication of our players," said Fannon.

 "We also know that we must continue with the principles that have got us here, as we want to ensure this ranking is something we hold at the end of the season."
 
The Tigers boast a roster that includes five seniors and six juniors, with junior college transfer Jordyn Wright leading the team with two goals thus far.
 

ON THE NATIONAL STAGE

  • Wittenberg ha shown well on the national stage in 2016, as the non-conference schedule for the Tigers has been extremely challenging. 
  • 9/1/16- Wittenberg dropped a 3-0 match to #7 Thomas More after allowing three first half goals, pushing the top ranked team all night. 
  • 9/3/16- The Tigers dropped then ranked #10 Wisconsin Whitewater in Springfield 3-2, a Missy Bernhardt floated a lob into the net as seconds winded down. 
  • 9/14/16- Wittenberg had the #5 team in the nation, Centre College, on the ropes until the 84th minute, when a late Centre goal would send the game in to double-overtime, ending in a tie.
