SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Senior Kate Burns (Granger, Ind./Penn) scored a goal less than five minutes into the second half to break a scoreless draw and propel the Wittenberg Tigers to a 3-1 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory over visiting Oberlin.

The win moved Wittenberg to 7-4-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the NCAC, while Oberlin fell to 5-6-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the league. The Tigers head into the final four games of the 2015 season in fourth place in the NCAC standings with seven points.

After neither team converted its scoring chances in the first half, Burns wasted no time in the second half after taking a lead pass from sophomore Lauren Hofer (Avon, Ind./Cardinal Ritter) in the opposing penalty area and sliding her shot pass the keeper. That was followed just a few minutes later by a header goal by junior Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison) off a flip throw-in by sophomore Leah Soutar (Troy, Ohio/Troy).

Soutar added a second assist in the 82nd minute after her pass set up Burns for her second score of the game. Oberlin got one goal back with 3:22 remaining, but the Tiger defense otherwise was up to the challenge, including a pair of stops by field players in the goal mouth.

Wittenberg outshot Oberlin 13-7 in the game, which was played mostly in the midfield. The Tigers were awarded just three corner kicks, while the Yeowomen did not attempt a corner kick.

In goal, senior Maggie Grieser (St. Paris, Ohio/Graham) made three saves in the game. Burns led Wittenberg with four shots in the game, while Brunswick added a pair.
