SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers rallied for a 1-1 tie against North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Allegheny, securing a much-needed point in the league standings.

The draw, played in a steady, cold rain in unseasonably cold temperatures, gave Wittenberg an overall record of 5-4-2 to go along with an NCAC mark of 0-1-1. The Tigers have a week to get healthy and prepare for another important NCAC match-up as they are scheduled to travel to Ohio Wesleyan on Oct. 10.

Allegheny is now 2-7-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the league.

The Gators got on the board first in the 35th minute on a shot by Colleen Fleming from the top of the penalty area. Wittenberg had numerous quality scoring opportunities thwarted before junior Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison) pushed forward on a free kick to tie the game up.

Brunswick's initial header in the 78th minute hit the crossbar. But after a scramble in front of the Allegheny net, Brunswick's follow-up attempt resulted in her second goal of the season.

The Tigers led the shot count 12-7, while Allegheny held a narrow 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Allegheny goalkeeper Christina Gallagher was forced into seven saves in the game, while Wittenberg sophomore Hannah Wilson (Pickerington, Ohio/North) finished with one.

Junior Morgan Jones (Louisville, Ky./Atherton) led Wittenberg with four shots in the game, while Brunswick, sophomore Nicole Karavakis (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington Central) and sophomore Lauren Hofer (Avon, Ind./Cardinal Ritter) each contributed two attempts on the Allegheny goal.
