SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers picked up a second-half goal from sophomore Nicole Karavakis (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington Central) and battled Case Western to a draw from there.

The 1-1 tie left Case Western with a record of 2-0-2, while Wittenberg stands 3-1-1 through the first two weeks of the 2015 season. The Tigers have a pair of challenging road games on tap over the next two weeks, starting with Centre on Wednesday, Sept. 16, and concluding at Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday, Sept. 20.

Case Western opened the scoring with a goal in the 29th minute by Makenzie Best, who corralled a penalty kick and fired a left-footed shot after two touches to beat the Tiger defense. Wittenberg drew even in the 57th minute as Karavakis headed home a corner kick service from sophomore Julia Smith (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington).

Wittenberg had great success on corner kicks all day, even if only one shot found the back of the Case Western net. Early in the game, junior Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison) went just high and over the crossbar with her header, and in the closing moments of regulation freshman Megan Davis (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington) had her chance, but it went right to the Spartan goalkeeper.

For the game, Wittenberg held a 13-10 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kick opportunities. Sophomore Hannah Wilson (Pickerington, Ohio/North) was credited with six saves in the game for the Tigers.
