Tigers Maintain Offensive Pace With 4-1 Win Over Wilmington

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers continued their offensive outburst, finding the net four times in a thorough victory over visiting Wilmington in non-conference action at Edwards-Maurer Field.

Four different Wittenberg players scored goals in the game and three different players contributed assists as the Tigers improved to 3-1 on the season. Wilmington evened its record at 2-2.

The Tigers opened their scoring account with a pair of goals in the span of just 1:13, starting with a tally from freshman Megan Davis (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington) in the 22nd minute. In the 23rd minute, sophomore Julia Smith (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) served a free kick into the Wilmington penalty box and junior Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison) finished it with a header.

Wittenberg added three goals in the second half, with two going into Wilmington's net and one finding the back of the Tigers' goal. Sophomore Lauren Hofer () scored just 37 seconds into the second half and senior Kate Burns (Granger, Ind./Penn) capped things with a goal in the 62nd minute off a feed from Hofer.

In between, Wilmington got on the board with an own goal.

The two teams split 18 shots evenly, although the Tigers finished with a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Wilmington goalkeeper Brittany Ross was credited with three saves, while Wittenberg's sophomore netminder Hannah Wilson (Pickerington, Ohio/North) made seven saves.

The Tigers will continue their early season homestand with a game against Case Western at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.
