Gators Tumble Tigers In Regular Season Finale

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Wittenberg women's soccer team put the wraps on the regular season on Saturday with a 2-0 loss at Allegheny, falling to 8-7-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

The Tigers, though, have earned the fourth seed in the upcoming NCAC Tournament, which decides the recipient of the league's automatic invitation the NCAA Division III tournament. The conference tournament kicks off Wednesday, Nov. 5, as the Tigers travel to top-seeded Kenyon for a 2:15 p.m. match in Gambier, Ohio.

Allegheny opened the scoring 20 minutes in and scored the second goal in the second half. Wittenberg had the advantage in corner kicks with five in the match, compared to two for Allegheny, but the Gators outshot the Tigers by a mark of 13-10.

Senior Tobie Weston (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Christian) led the Tiger offense with three shots, putting two on frame. Senior Kate Burns (Granger, Ind./Penn), freshman Leah Soutar (Troy, Ohio/Troy) and freshman Nicole Karavakis (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington Central) followed with two each, while senior Chelsey Marcum (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) fired one shot.

The goalkeeping tandem of junior Maggie Grieser (St. Paris, Ohio/Graham) and freshman Alexa Murrietta (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge) split time evenly in front of the net and posted matching lines of two saves and one goal allowed.
