WOOSTER, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers are heating up at just the right time after picking up their third win in a row with a 4-1 decision on the road against the Wooster Scots.

The win pushed the Tigers' records to 8-5-1 overall and 4-2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), while Wooster dropped behind Wittenberg (12 points) in the league standings with a 3-3-1 record (10 points). The Tigers are now tied for third place with Denison, three points behind co-leaders Kenyon and Allegheny with two games to play.

Wittenberg will close the season with a home game against DePauw at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, and a road contest at Allegheny at 12 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1.

Bus legs were not an issue for the Tigers, who jumped on top with a goal just 1:42 into the game. Junior Kate Burns (Granger, Ind./Penn) buried her first shot of the day after receiving a pass from senior Erika Rich (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley).

By halftime, the lead had expanded to 3-0 as senior Tobie Weston (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Christian) scored on a penalty kick in the 28th minute and sophomore Kyrie Bumpus (Dresden, Ohio/Tri-Valley) slotted a ball home in the 32nd minute off a feed from Burns. After Wooster got a goal back in the 68th minute on a breakaway, sophomore Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison) restored the three-goal cushion as she scored a goal at the 75:05 mark.

Wittenberg finished the game with a narrow 16-14 advantage in shots, in addition to a 6-3 edge in corner kick opportunities. Freshman goalkeeper Alexa Murrietta (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge) came up with seven key saves to secure the win.
