SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Visiting Manchester managed just seven shots against Wittenberg's 20 as the Tiger women's soccer team took home a 2-0 victory Tuesday night to improve to 4-4-1 overall.

In the non-conference tilt, Wittenberg got on the board after 49 minutes had passed when junior Kate Burns (Granger, Ind./Penn) received a pass from senior Tobie Weston (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Christian) and buried it. The goal reinforced Burns' standing as the team's leading scorer, with five goals and a total of 11 points on the season.

For her part, Weston ties for third in scoring on the team with two goals on the season, including one tonight as she scored in unassisted fashion in the 55th minute by dribbling across the middle and ripping a shot from 25 yards.

Weston finished the game with three shots to lead the box score, while Burns had two, and freshman Julia Smith (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), sophomore Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison), and senior Erika Rich (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) each shot once.

Freshman Alexa Murietta (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge) and junior Maggie Grieser (St. Paris, Ohio/Graham) split the time in front of the goal evenly. Murietta made one save while Grieser was not challenged while in goal.

Meanwhile, junior Mackenzie Bolon (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) "thwarted every Manchester attack" while playing the center back position, according to Head Coach Matt Fannon. He also credited Rich with a "work rate and movement that created a lot of chances for us."

The Tigers resume North Coast Athletic Conference play with a 7 p.m. game against Ohio Wesleyan at home  on Friday, Oct. 3, before an eight-day layoff.
