OBERLIN, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers fell 2-1 in overtime at Oberlin in the 2014 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opener for both teams.

The loss dropped the Tigers, tri-champions of the NCAC's regular season a year ago, to 3-4-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the league. Oberlin won for the sixth straight time to improve to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

After a scoreless first half, Wittenberg opened the scoring with a goal by senior Erika Rich (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) at the 51:39 mark. Oberlin had the answer, however, with a goal in the 64th minute that tied the game and eventually forced overtime.

After neither team broke through in the first extra session, Oberlin's Ellie Huizenga scored on a shot from the top of the penalty box to give the Yeowomen an unlikely victory. In 2013, Wittenberg defeated Oberling 6-0 at Edwards-Maurer Field.

Wittenberg held a 21-16 advantage in shots in the game, led by senior Tobie Weston (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) with six. Sophomore Morgan Jones (Louisville, Ky./Atherton) added three shots, as did junior Kate Burns (Granger, Ind./Penn).

Freshman goalkeeper Alexa Murrietta (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge) was credited with seven saves for the Tigers.
