SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers got back to their winning ways with a 2-1 home victory over non-conference rival Transylvania.

The win came on the heels of a challenging road trip to Illinois Wesleyan - which ended in a 3-2 loss on Sept. 13 - and it evened the Tigers' record at 3-3 on the season. Transylvania fell to 2-4.

While the Tigers dominated the offensive statistics - outshooting the Pioneers by a 25-10 count and attempting seven corner kicks to one for Transylvania - Wittenberg actually was forced to come from behind to secure the victory. The Pioneers jumped on top with a goal just six minutes into the game on a long shot from outside the Tigers' penalty box.

Wittenberg had the answer just 3:42 later. Junior Kate Burns (Granger, Ind./Penn) finished a chance in the Transy penalty area after a corner kick by senior Chelsey Marcum (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville).

In the 32nd minute, the Tigers came up with the game-winner, as it turned out. This time it was sophomore Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison) finishing a corner kick by Marcum as her header beat the Transylvania goalie to the upper 90.

The Tigers defense did the rest, with Brunswick teaming up with sophomore Lauren Elwell (Duluth, Minn./East), freshman Nicole Karavakis (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington Central) and junior Mackenzie Bolon (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) to limit the Pioneers to just five total shots on frame. Freshman goalkeeper Alexa Murrietta (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge) came up with four saves.
