WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers showed some early-season resiliency, bouncing back from a disappointing loss to capture a dominating 4-0 decision at Wilmington.

The win evened Wittenberg's record at 1-1, heading into a weekend road trip to Cleveland for a game against Case Western on Saturday, Sept. 6. Wilmington fell to 0-3.

Wittenberg jumped on top in the ninth minute on a goal by junior Kate Burns (Granger, Ind./Penn), off a feed from freshman Nicole Karavakis (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington Central). The score remained 1-0 until the 56th minute, when Burns scored an unassisted goal. That was followed by insurance goals from freshman Emma Hawthorn (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade Julienne) and senior Tobie Weston (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Christian). Freshman Lauren Hofer (Avon, Ind./Cardinal Ritter) assisted on Hawthorn's score.

The final shots count wasn't nearly as lopsided the scoreboard, with Wittenberg holding onto a narrow 12-10 advantage. Wilmington finished with a 7-1 lead in corner kick opportunities.

The Tiger defense was stellar in this game, backstopped by freshman goalkeeper Alexa Murrietta (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge). She was credited with four saves before giving way to sophomore Maggie Grieser (St. Paris, Ohio/Graham) for the final 3:30.
