Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University women’s soccer team has once again been recognized for its outstanding collective work in the classroom with a 2014 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award.

The Tigers posted a 3.09 team grade point average (GPA) during the 2013-14 school year to earn the award for the ninth time in the last 10 years and the 13th time since the award was created in 1996. The NSCAA program honors men’s and women’s soccer teams that display excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale.

“I am very proud of our young women who do such an outstanding job balancing the rigors of the classroom with the demands of college athletics,” said Tigers’ Head Coach Matt Fannon. “Our staff is dedicated to following the university’s mission, and this award highlights our team’s dedication to it and the shared vision of our Director of Athletics Gary Williams and University President Laurie Joyner.”

The Tigers posted records of 8-8-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) in the recently completed 2014 season. The Tigers finished fourth in the final NCAC standings and advanced to the league tournament before losing 2-0 to eventual champion Kenyon in the semifinal round.
