GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Wittenberg Tigers continued their ascent up the 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) standings with a 2-1 victory at DePauw.

The defending NCAC regular season champion, Wittenberg moved within one win of securing the program's first-ever back-to-back title by upending the previous league leader. The visiting Tigers improved to 9-6-3 overall and 5-1-1 in the league, while the host Tigers fell to 10-7 overall and 5-2 in the NCAC, good for third place behind Allegheny.

The Gators close the season with games at Wooster on Wednesday, Oct. 30, and Wittenberg on Saturday, Nov. 2. DePauw is scheduled to take on fourth-place Denison, also on Nov. 2. Interestingly, none of the league's nine teams have secured a spot in the four-team NCAC Tournament that starts Wednesday, Nov. 6. Five teams can still reach at least 17 points in the final standings.

Wittenberg jumped on top late in the first half as senior Kayla Murphy (Dayton, Ohio/Stebbins) scored her eighth goal of the season with 1:01 left before halftime. Junior Chelsey Marcum (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) provided the assist.

DePauw evened the match in the 53rd minute, but the visiting Tigers scored the game-winner 14 minutes later as sophomore Zoe Curry (Milford, Ohio/Ursuline) found the back of the net.

Wittenberg held a 13-4 advantage in shots and a commanding 9-2 lead in corner kick opportunities. In goal, freshman Kelsey Lorko (Fairview Park, Ohio/Fairview) earned her fourth win of the season by making three saves.
