HIRAM, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's soccer team improved to 7-5-3 overall and 3-0-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference competition with a convincing 3-0 win at Hiram College on Saturday.

The victory keeps the Tigers alone in second place with 10 points in the league chase, just ahead of Allegheny (3-0-0 NCAC, nine points), Wooster and Denison (both 2-1-2, eight points). DePauw defeated Oberlin 2-0 in Greencastle, Ind., to stay atop the chart at 4-1-0 in conference play.

It took 40 minutes of play for the floodgates to open, but the scoring gushed when they did. The Tigers blitzed Hiram for all three scores in the span of 2:58.

The scoring burst started with an unassisted score by sophomore Mackenzie Bolon (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) in the 41st minute. Just 1:33 later, freshman Mackenzie Fisler (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) found the nylon on an assist by Bolon.

Freshman Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison) wrapped up the sequence with a goal in the 44th minute, with help from senior Leslie Oliver (Enon, Ohio/Greenon).

The Tigers dominated all phases of the game in building a 15-1 shot advantage. Wittenberg took 10 corner kicks to Hiram's two, and the Terriers forced sophomore starting goalkeeper Maggie Grieser (St. Paris, Ohio/Graham) to save only one shot in her 75 minutes in goal. Freshman Kelsey Lorko (Fairview Park, Ohio/Fairview) relieved Grieser with 15 minutes remaining and faced no pressure.

The Tigers continue the NCAC campaign on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in Gambier, Ohio, facing Kenyon College at 4 p.m.
