SPRINGFIELD, Ohio –Wittenberg women's soccer stands alone in second in the North Coast Athletic conference after picking up a point in a 1-1 tie with Denison University on Saturday.

The Homecoming tie helped the Tigers break out of a three-way tie with Allegheny and Wooster, who each boast two wins in conference. Wittenberg now owns a 2-0-1 record in NCAC action and a 6-5-3 record overall.

The Tigers got on the board early and held on to the tie by shutting Denison down after the Big Red scored in the 51st minute. Senior Lindsay Janmey (Hinckley, Ohio/Highland) converted a corner kick by Chelsey Marcum (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) into a score less than five minutes into the contest.

The Big Red stayed quiet for 45 minutes before Jessica Skelly put the equalizer in. The remaining 40 minutes of regulation play went by uneventfully, and the teams headed to overtime.

Denison managed four shots in the first overtime and three in the second, but Wittenberg goalkeeper sophomore Maggie Grieser (St. Paris, Ohio/Graham) was up to the task, stopping the one shot put on frame.

The visitors posted 25 shots in the match to Wittenberg's 16, answered by Grieser's eight saves in the final tally.

Around the endline, Wittenberg played expertly, going to the flag for nine corner kicks versus Denison's seven.

For the match, junior Tobie Weston (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Christian) paced the Tigers with six shots, while Janmey and senior Kayla Murphy (Dayton, Ohio/Stebbins) each shot three times and senior Erin Rowell (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Twp.) made two attempts.
