LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Wittenberg Tigers stepped out of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play one final time in the 2013 season, falling 3-2 on the road to Transylvania.

The loss pushed the Tigers' record back to even at 5-5-2 overall. Transylvania remained one of the top teams in the Great Lakes Region with a 6-2-1 record.

Wittenberg, which closes the season with seven straight NCAC games, starting with Ohio Wesleyan on Friday, Oct. 4, outshot the host team 19-12 in the game. The Pioneers held a narrow 7-6 edge in corner kick opportunities.

The big difference in the team stats came in the goal where the Pioneers held a 10-2 advantage in saves. Transylvania goalkeeper Jerrica Scovel came up particularly big in the first half as she hauled in eight saves on 13 Wittenberg shots.

While the Tigers couldn't find the range in the opening 45 minutes, the Pioneers got on the board in the 32nd minute. Wittenberg answered 21 minutes into the second half on a goal by freshman Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison).

The Pioneers would put the game out of reach, however, with two goals in an 11-minute span. The Tigers finally drew within one again at the 89:42 mark on the first goal of the season from junior defender Mary Clare Yerke (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) off a feed from junior Tobie Weston (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Christian). But Transylvania successfully closed out the contest off the re-start.
