SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg women's soccer team is officially hitting on all cylinders. Just ask Hiram, a 5-0 victim on Homecoming Weekend at Wittenberg University.

The win was Wittenberg's fifth in a row as the Tigers improved to 6-2-2. More importantly, Wittenberg is now 3-0-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

In a string of mid-season victories that includes three shutouts and a scoring margin of 13-2 since a 0-0 tie at Case Western on Sept. 15, the Tigers may have been at their most impressive in the win over Hiram. Wittenberg held a commanding 27-2 advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in corner kick opportunities in the game.

Three of those Wittenberg shots found the back of the net in the first half and two more beat the Hiram goalkeeper over the final 45 minutes. The Tigers took 14 shots in the first half, with nine going on frame, and then added 13 shots in the second half, with five going on frame.

The scoring opened off the head of junior Kayla Murphy (Dayton, Ohio/Stebbins), who headed in a corner kick by sophomore Tobie Weston (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Christian) in the seventh minute. By halftime, the margin was 3-0 thanks to unassisted goals by senior Kailey Striebel (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) in the 22nd minute and freshman Kaylee Gialamas (Willoughby, Ohio/Hawken) in the 31st minute.

In the second half, sophomore Chelsey Marcum (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) scored in the 50th minute and senior Grace Winzeler (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) rounded things out with a goal in the 68th minute.

The Tigers get right back into action Sunday, Oct. 7, at Thomas More.
