Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University women's soccer standouts Lauren McMahon (Loveland, Ohio/Ursuline) and Kailey Striebel (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) have earned 2012 All-Great Lakes Region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

McMahon, a senior defender, was named to the second team, while Striebel, a senior midfielder, claimed a spot on the third team. The regional recognition is a first for McMahon and the second for Striebel, who was named to the first team following the 2010 season.

Both student-athletes were four-year starters for the Tigers, who posted records of 11-5-3 overall and 7-0-1 mark in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), good for the program's second regular season championship. After losing in the NCAC Tournament semifinals, the Tigers were awarded the fifth NCAA Division III Tournament berth in program history before bowing out in the first round to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

McMahon capped her collegiate career in style, moving up from second-team All-NCAC in 2011 to first-team in 2012 and adding NCAC Defensive Player of the Year honors as well. She is the fourth Wittenberg women's soccer player to earn the conference's top defensive award, following in the footsteps of Sarah Newlin in 1995, Jamie McIntyre in 2004 and 2005, and Maggie Amorello in 2009.

McMahon spearheaded one of the top defensive teams in the nation as the Tigers allowed just 14 goals in 19 games, including a meager eight in 17 regular season games. Wittenberg recorded 11 shutouts during the 2012 season, and the Tigers ended the campaign ranked first in the NCAC in goals allowed, goals against average and shutouts, all by relatively wide margins.

Striebel was the leader at the other end of the field, ranking second on the team in goals (6) and total points (13) while taking 20 more shots than any other player on the team. She finished her illustrious collegiate career ranked third in Wittenberg history for career goals (28) and total points (72) and fourth for assists (16).

Striebel was a second-team All-NCAC selection in 2009 before three straight first-team awards in 2010, 2011 and 2012. She also earned first-team All-Ohio in 2010 and third-team All-Ohio in 2011 (the awards have not been announced for 2012 yet).
