GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The Wittenberg Tigers lost their third straight North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) game, allowing a second-half lead to slip away in a 2-1 loss at DePauw.

The loss dropped Wittenberg to 8-8-1 overall and 3-4 in the NCAC with just one regular season game remaining, at home against defending champion Wooster. DePauw improved to 5-10-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the conference, in the process moving ahead of the visiting Tigers in the standings.

After a scoreless first half, in which the host Tigers outshot Wittenberg 7-0, the visiting Tigers jumped on top at the 59:02 mark as junior Kailey Striebel (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) found the back of the net. The lead was short-lived, however, as DePauw responded with the equalizer 52 seconds later and what turned out to be the game-winner at the 64:19 mark.

Ironically, Wittenberg outshot DePauw 12-4 in the second half and attempted three corner kicks to one for the host Tigers. But DePauw goalkeeper Caroline Kerr came up with seven saves to preserve the key NCAC win.

Wittenberg junior Melissa Gartner (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) finished with four saves in the game.
