Springfield, Ohio — The Wittenberg University women's soccer team has once again been recognized for its outstanding collective work in the classroom with a 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award.

The Tigers posted a 3.10 team grade point average (GPA) to earn the award for a fifth time. The NSCAA program honors men's and women's soccer teams that display excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Excellence on the field and in the classroom often go hand in hand, so it's hardly surprising that the Tigers, who have captured three NCAC Tournament titles in the last five years and have won at least eight games in every season since 2003, feature scholar-athletes who also achieve by hitting the books. Athletic and academic excellence are cornerstones of the Tiger GAME Plan, an initiative that seeks to ensure that Wittenberg scholar-athletes are positioned for future success through a well-rounded collegiate experience.

"I'm proud of the fact that the scholar-athletes in our program have done such a fine job balancing the rigors of collegiate athletics with the demands in the classroom," said Head Coach Kwame Lloyd. "As a coach, the best way I can serve the scholar-athletes at Wittenberg is to help them attain their athletic and academic goals."

In Lloyd's first season at the helm, the Tigers finished 8-9-1 overall and 3-5-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). Five Tigers earned All-NCAC honors after the season.
