LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Wittenberg Tigers made the long mid-week trip to Transylvania and came up just short in a 2-1 overtime loss to the nationally ranked Pioneers.

Wittenberg slipped below .500 for the first time since the start of the 2011 season at 4-5-1 overall. Transylvania, ranked No. 14 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and No. 25 by d3soccer.com, improved to 8-1.

Neither team was able to come up with a goal in the first half, but senior Sheryl Chambers (Victorville, Calif./St. Joan of Arc) broke the drought with an unassisted tally at the 66:07 mark. Fourteen minutes later, Transylvania came up with the equalizer to send the game into overtime.

With just 20 seconds left in the first overtime period, the Pioneers came up with the game-winner.

Transylvania held a slim 12-10 advantage in total shots, but Wittenberg had a commanding advantage in corner kick opportunities at 9-5. Junior goalkeeper Melissa Gartner (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) made five saves in the game.
