CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers got back into the win column and moved back above .500 on the 2011 season with a 2-0 win at Mount St. Joseph.

The Tigers improved to 4-3, heading into a road trip to Earlham on Wednesday, Sept. 21. Mount St. Joseph dropped to 1-5-1.

Wittenberg scored a goal in each half while thoroughly outplaying its host. In the first half, the Tigers took 13 shots while pitching a shutout at the other end. In the second half, the shot margin wasn't as lop-sided, with the Tigers holding a 9-6 edge.

Senior Sheryl Chambers (Victorville, Calif./St. Joan of Arc) scored the game's first goal in the 39th minute. After taking a 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime, the Tigers effectively put the game out of reach on a second-half goal from freshman Cassie Howell (Batavia, Ohio/Glen Este).

Junior goalkeeper Cassie Lythjohan (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) recorded three saves, all in the second half. The Tigers forced Mount St. Joseph goalkeeper Shelbi Benzinger into 11 saves and a Lions defender also was credited with clearing a ball of her line.
