WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wittenberg women's soccer team earned their first shutout of the year Saturday with a 2-0 win over nearby Wilmington College, moving to 2-0 on the season.

Just 1:25 into the game, senior defender Erin McLeish (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) went to the left corner of the Wilmington goal after a foul to put the Tigers ahead. The Tigers bought some insurance in the 26th minute when junior forward Sheryl Chambers (Victorville, Calif./St. Joan of Arc) scored off an assist from junior forward Megan Utter (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids).

Beyond the two goals, the Tigers put three other shots on goal, while the Quakers forced Wittenberg into five saves. Sophomore Melissa Gartner (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) made one in the first half, and sophomore Cassie Lythjohan (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) defended the net with four in the second half.

The Tigers have a quick overnight turnaround, hosting Mount Union at home at Edwards-Maurer Field at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5.
