PITTSBURGH - The Wittenberg women's soccer team fell to 3-2 overall on the season Sunday with a tough 1-0 loss to the hosts in the Tigers' final game in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational. The loss came despite outshooting the Tartans 10-7.

Carnegie Mellon, unranked but tough with a matching 3-2 record following the game, levied just two shots on goal, but it only took one to decide the game. Wittenberg's attack forced the Carnegie Mellon defense into four saves, while sophomore netminder Melissa Gartner (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) made one.

Gartner spent all 90 minutes in goal for the first time this season, with normal second period replacement sophomore Cassie Lythjohan (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) sidelined following a technical red card in Saturday's match.

The deciding goal came just four minutes into the game, on a shot that Gartner got hands on but had enough power to find its way to the back of the net.

Offensively, sophomore forward Kailey Striebel (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) led the Tigers' in the shooting column with three shots, including one on goal, followed by senior defender Erin McLeish (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) with two shots, one on goal, and four players each with one shot.

The Tigers continue the road swing with a 5 p.m. match at 2-1 Ohio Northern in Ada, Ohio, on Wednesday, Sept. 15.
