SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg women's soccer team pushed their season-opening winning streak to three games with a 1-0 win over Mount Union at home Sunday. The Tigers improved to 3-0 following their second match in as many days.

After a 2-0 win at Wilmington Saturday night, the Tigers turned around and prepared to host the Raiders Sunday, and greeted the visitors with plenty of offense. Wittenberg outshot Mount Union 19-2 in the game and took nine corner kicks to the Raiders' two.

Mount Union was forced into 11 saves in the game, thanks in part to two shots on goal each for three different players. Junior forward Sheryl Chambers (Victorville, Calif./St. Joan of Arc) had four shots overall, including the Tigers' lone goal in the second period when the ball broke loose from a tackle just a few yards from the goal and Chambers put the ball into the back of an undefended net.

Sophomore forward/midfielder Kailey Striebel (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) matched Chambers' shot total with four and put two on goal, as did sophomore midfielder/forward Amy Cook (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby). Seven additional Wittenberg players attempted shots to round out the column.

Sophomore Melissa Gartner (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) again took goalkeeping duties in the first half, where she was unchallenged in 45 minutes, and sophomore Cassie Lythjohan (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) made one save in her 45 minutes during the second period.

The Tigers head to Carnegie Mellon for their annual invitational to face Johns Hopkins in the opening game on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 1:30 p.m. in Pittsburgh, Pa.
