Second Half Goal Pushes Tigers Past Terriers
The Wittenberg women's soccer team kept an unbeaten streak alive and well at eight games Saturday evening at Edwards-Maurer Field, winning 2-1 over Hiram. With their seventh win in eight matches, the Tigers moved to 10-2-1 overall and a perfect 2-0-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg women's soccer team kept an unbeaten streak alive and well at eight games Saturday evening at Edwards-Maurer Field, winning 2-1 over Hiram. With their seventh win in eight matches, the Tigers moved to 10-2-1 overall and a perfect 2-0-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).
The Tigers started things off quickly, scoring the game's first goal in just 8:31 when sophomore forward/midfielder Kailey Striebel (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) crossed the ball from deep on the right and it struck a defender and angled into the net.
The score stayed 1-0 for over 42 minutes as the two teams battled it out defensively. The Terriers eliminated the margin in the 51st minute when a shot deflected off the post and was put back into the goal.
Wittenberg returned fire with the game-winning goal 17 minutes later. Sophomore midfielder/forward Amy Cook (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) fed the ball to junior forward Sheryl Chambers (Victorville, Calif./St. Joan of Arc), who pinned the ball inside the far post from a tight angle.
The Tigers are back in action defending their perfect league record on Tuesday, Oct. 12, with a 7 p.m. contest at Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
