Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University women's soccer standout Maggie Amorello, class of 2011 from Sutton, Mass., has capped her 2009 season with third-team All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) after she and Sheryl Chambers, class of 2012 from Victorville, Calif., earned All-Great Lakes Region honors.

For Amorello, who spearheaded one of the top defensive units in all of NCAA Division III in 2009, the All-America honor caps a month of postseason accolades, starting with first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference and NCAC Defensive Player of the Year honors. She now has a second-team All-NCAC and two first-team All-NCAC awards to her credit, in addition to second-team all-region in 2008 and first-team in 2009.

Amorello also has earned a pair of All-NCAC awards while playing for the Tiger women's lacrosse team.

Amorello, who started all 21 games in which she played, was the central defender on a unit that allowed just 13 goals in 22 games in 2009. The Tigers recorded 15 shutouts, good for No. 2 in the conference and No. 12 in all of NCAA Division III in team shutout percentage. The Tigers were one of just two teams in the NCAC to finish with less than three goalkeeper saves per game in 2009, a testament to the quality defensive play by Amorello and her back-line mates.

Chambers enjoyed nothing short of a breakout season in 2009. After earning a varsity letter as a reserve in 2008, Chambers started all 22 games this year and finished first on the team in goals (8) and total points (17). She netted five game-winning goals on the season en route to first-team All-NCAC and third-team All-Great Lakes Region honors.

The Tigers put together another stellar season in 2009, finishing 12-5-5 overall and 4-2-2 in the NCAC before winning a fourth straight conference tournament crown. The Tigers advanced to their fourth straight NCAA Division III Tournament before bowing out in the second round to Calvin College.
