Tigers Back On Track With Win Over Oberlin

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg women's soccer team shrugged off a two-game slide with a 1-0 defeat of Oberlin Saturday, moving to 8-3-3 overall and 3-2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The conference victory came when the Tigers needed it most, following close back-to-back losses to Hiram and Kenyon in recent days. The defense solidified once again to limit Oberlin to just 3 shots, only one of them on goal. On the other side of the field, the Tiger offense shot 15 times, putting seven attempts on goal.

The Tigers leading scorer, sophomore forward Sheryl Chambers (Victorville, Calif./St. Joan of Arc), netted her sixth goal of the year with the game-winner with 27 minutes to go in the game.

Leading the Tigers in shots was freshman forward Kailey Striebel (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont), launching four shots, three on goal, throughout the day. Freshman goalkeeper Melissa Gartner (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) was forced into just one save.

The Tigers hit the road again with a 4 p.m. match at Earlham on Tuesday, Oct. 20, to continue NCAC action.
