    Wittenberg University women's soccer standout Maggie Amorello, class of 2011 from Sutton, Mass., has capped her 2009 season with third-team All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) after she and Sheryl Chambers, class of 2012 from Victorville, Calif., earned All-Great Lakes Region honors.

  • Tigers Fall To Calvin In Second Round Of NCAA Division III Tournament

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — For the second straight year, the end of the road for the Wittenberg Tigers came on the home field of the Calvin Crusaders. Unlike last year's first round 4-0 stunner against the University of Chicago, however, the Tigers returned home with at least a moral victory after reaching the second round and playing the host Crusaders to a near standoff in a 1-0 loss.

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Now that the Wittenberg Tigers are in the NCAA Division III Tournament, it appears that the gloves - or whatever was muffling the offense - have come off. After suffering eight shutouts (five of which came in scoreless home ties) during the regular season, Wittenberg posted its second-highest scoring total of the 2009 season in posting a 3-1 first-round win over Ohio Northern.

    SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Rounding out a superb Saturday for the Wittenberg fall sports teams, the Tiger women's soccer team wrapped up another stellar season by capturing the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament title with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over the NCAC's surprise challenger, the Earlham Quakers. The Tigers improved to 11-4-5 overall in earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

    SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg women's soccer team added a Saturday game to their schedule, turning back Allegheny 1-0 Wednesday night in a North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal game to advance to the championship match for the fourth straight year. The Tigers will face Earlham at 6 p.m. at Edwards-Maurer Field for the conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.

    LEXINGTON, Ky. — The strong Wittenberg women's soccer defense slipped in a non-conference match with regional opponent Transylvania Saturday afternoon, dropping a 5-0 decision in their final regular season game. Though the loss drops the Tigers to 9-4-5 overall, it has no implications on the Tigers' upcoming bid for a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
