Capital's Crusade Stalls Under Weight of Wittenberg Offense

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - As the saying goes, offense wins games, but defense wins championships. Wittenberg's women's soccer team must be playing for a championship this season, as even the Tiger offense played brilliant defense on Wednesday night in a 1-0 win over Capital.

The team allowed only 2 shots on goal and just 4 shots overall in a game that was not as close as the score would indicate. Scoring just one goal on the night, the Red & White kept the ball in Capital territory for nearly the entire second period.

The combination of senior forward Sydney Bates (Loveland, Ohio/Milford) and senior midfielder Rachel Morgan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain), along with the rest of the Tiger offense resulted in a lopsided shot chart, as Wittenberg took 18 shots, including nine on goal.

Bates scored the only goal of the night in just the fourth minute of the game. Most of Wittenberg's shots were tough luck misses, deflecting off the posts or crossbar.
