Wittenberg Wins Night Game At Mount St. Joseph

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers love to shut out their opponents. They did it again on Tuesday night against Mount St. Joseph, winning a key in-region road game 1-0. Looking to make a statement the same day they fell off the National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Top 25, the Wittenberg women displayed the stingy defense to which Tiger fans have become accustomed.

The Red & White defense once again stifled the opponent, forcing senior goalie Meghan O'Rourke (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) into just one save. But that one save went a long way, earning the Tigers their second shutout in a row and their sixth in eight games.

Senior midfielder Amanda Farrell (Loveland, Ohio/Milford) scored in the 68th minute off a Suzanne Medwid (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) assist to put the Tigers ahead. Despite hammering Mount St. Joseph netminder Kelly Bare with 13 shots on goal, she saved 12 to hold Wittenberg to just the one goal.

The team's sixth shutout in eight games puts them one shutout ahead of schedule in pacing last year's 13 shutouts. In 2006, the team earned the sixth blank in their ninth game of the season.
