Wittenberg Tops Capital For Fifth Straight Win

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Teams with postseason aspirations find ways to win close games on the road. On a soggy Friday night, the Wittenberg Tigers did just that, pulling out a 2-1 win at Capital.

The Tigers won for the fifth straight time to improve to 6-2 overall. The Crusaders fell to 3-5 on the season.

Capital took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute but freshman Kyra Macke (Fort Thomas, Ky./Newport Central Catholic)responded less than five minutes later with a goal off a corner kick to tie the game going into halftime.

The Tiger defense, which saw its scoreless streak stopped at four games, clamped down from that point, setting the stage for the game-winner. Junior Lisa Rusch (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) made the most of the opportunity, cashing in on a breakaway in the 88th minute.
