Wittenberg Pulls Out One-Goal Win At Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio - Just what the doctor ordered. Gearing up for the rugged North Coast Athletic Conference competition, the Wittenberg Tigers got back to basics in capturing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ohio Northern on the Polar Bears' home field.

The win earned the Tigers a trip back above the .500 mark for the season at 3-2. Wittenberg is back in action Saturday in the 2006 home opener against Washington & Jefferson. Ohio Northern is also 3-2 overall.

Playing on a sloppy field thanks to multiple inches of rain across the Buckeye state in recent days, the two teams battled through more than 70 minutes without a score. The deadlock was ended in the 72nd minute by Wittenberg junior Amanda Farrell (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland), who headed home a cross from junior Lindsey Rusch (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne).

Junior Meghan O'Rourke (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) was credited with eight saves and the Tigers picked another as a team in the narrow victory, their third by shutout already in the 2006 season after recording 13 a year ago. Wittenberg outshot its host 17-13 and picked up five more corner kick opportunities.
