Wittenberg Ties Undefeated Wilmington, 0-0

WILMINGTON, Ohio - At first blush, a 0-0 tie may not seem like much. But for a team with postseason aspirations, the Wittenberg Tigers may have taken a small step forward with a lightning-shortened 0-0 tie at Wilmington.

The Tigers are now 6-2-1 on the season as they hit the midway point. Wittenberg wraps up the nonconference portion of the 2006 season with a home game Saturday against Indiana Wesleyan. Wilmington, on the other hand, heads into Ohio Athletic Conference action with a 6-0-2 record.

Wittenberg got seven clutch saves from junior goalkeeper Meghan O'Rourke (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne), while Wilmington's netminder was credited with just two. O'Rourke had two saves in overtime before the game was stopped in the 96th minute due to lightning.

Wilmington held a 13-10 advantage in total shots, while the Tigers had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. No Wittenberg player attempted more than two shots in the game.

The Tigers have now recorded six shutouts on the season, including five in the last six games. Not coincidentally, Wittenberg is 5-0-1 after starting the season with two losses in the first three games.
