Wittenberg Goes Overtime To Pick Up Win Over Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. - Nothing in life is easy - at least nothing truly desirable. The Wittenberg Tigers learned that on Saturday as they were pushed into overtime before finally taking down Earlham College for a hard-fought 1-0 road win.

Coming just days after the Tigers opened the North Coast Athletic Conference campaign with a 1-0 home loss to nationally ranked Denison, the win was a bit tight but nonetheless satisfying. Wittenberg improved to 10-2 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC.

Wittenberg dominated the game, compiling 14 shots compared to four for the homestanding Quakers. The Tigers finally broke through seven minutes into the overtime period as freshman Lauren Johnson found the back of the net. No assist was credited on the score.

The Tigers recorded their ninth shutout already in the 2005 season, pulling this year's edition of the team to within two of the record-tying total of 11 posted a year ago. Sophomore goalkeeper Meghan O'Rourke posted just one save in the game for the Tigers, who held an 18-2 advantage in corner kicks.
