Wittenberg Breaks Out With 3-0 Win Over Oberlin

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers followed a tried-and-true winning formula for most of Saturday's game before turning on the offensive jets with three goals in the final 30 minutes to capture a 3-0 win over visiting Oberlin.

Wittenberg, which recorded its 10th shutout of the 2005 season - just one short of the school record set in 1995 and equalled a year ago, improved to 11-2 overall and 2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The Tigers picked up a shutout for sophomore goalkeeper Meghan O'Rourke, who was pressured into just one save in the game, controlling the action in the midfield throughout the game before finally organizing its offensive play in the final 30 minutes to put the Yeowomen away. Goals were credited to sophomore forward Sydney Bates, sophomore defender Lindsey Rusch and sophomore forward Lisa Rusch. Bates headed in a cross from sophomore Melissa Ketterman that bounced off the top of crossbar before falling to her in the goal mouth. Also assisting on that goal was senior Lindsay Zigler. Freshman forward Kristy Parker picked up the assists on each of the next two scores.
