Wittenberg Downs Nationally Ranked DePauw

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers may have come of age on Sunday, completing a home weekend sweep with a dramatic 1-0 win over nationally ranked DePauw.

A year ago, a freshman-dominated Wittenberg team traveled to DePauw and came away with a 2-2 tie. This time, the result was better for the Tigers as they picked up a second-half goal from sophomore Lisa Rusch on a penalty kick to account for the final margin of victory.

Senior midfielder Emily Hiscar was fouled in the DePauw penalty area as she attempted to get a shot off, leading to the penalty kick attempt. Hiscar was part of the Tigers' stellar defensive effort, which recorded a second straight shutout on the weekend and the third straight for the 2005 season. Wittenberg has allowed just one goal in its first four games, that coming against Illinois Wesleyan in the Sept. 2 season opener.
